Alice K. Kurashige was the first
Japanese-American woman to be commissioned in theUnited States Marine Corps , serving from 1964 to 1970, reaching the rank of captain. She was the commanding officer of Women Marine Company, Headquarters Battalion, Marine Corps Supply Center inBarstow, California fromNovember 5 ,1969 toMay 14 ,1970 . She was also the first woman to become aFood Service Officer in the Marine Corps.
