"Platynematichthys notatus" is a species of catfish (order Siluriformes) of the monotypic genus "Platynematichthys" of the family Pimelodidae. [ITIS|ID=681788|taxon="Platynematichthys notatus"|year=2007|date=May 26] This species reaches about 80 centimetres (31 in) SL and originates from the Amazon and Orinoco River basins. "Platynematichthys" and its sister group "Brachyplatystoma" are the only genera in the tribe Brachyplatystomatini.
