Srdjan Djekanovic (Serbian: Срђан Ђекановић, "Srđan Đekanović" or "Srdjan Djekanović", (born January 8, 1983 in Belgrade, Serbia), is a Serbian / Canadian soccer player. He is a goalkeeper who last played for the Vancouver Whitecaps in 2008, in the USL First Division and is currently a free agent.

Club career

Early career in Europe

Srdjan Djekanovic's professional career has included stops at FK Zemun, FK Zmaj Zemun, FK Radnički Obrenovac, and FK Železničar Beograd, in Serbia from 2001-2004. Following this he played 2 seasons for the University of British Columbia Thunderbirds with whom he won the CIS National Championships in 2005, and at the same time he played for the Vancouver Whitecaps of the USL with whom he also won the USL Championship in 2006.

The move to North America

On 2 June 2007, Srdjan made his first ever MLS start in goal in a match versus the Colorado Rapids. Srdjan recorded his first victory as Toronto won 2-1. Djekanovic earned his first clean sheet on June 17, 2007 in a 4-0 Toronto FC win over FC Dallas. Toronto FC finished the 2007 season with the team record 6-17-7, team record with Srdjan starting was 2-3-2, with 1.28 goals against average, both by far being the team best. Srdjan also played in 10 reserve team games during the 2007 season while with the Toronto FC, not allowing a goal in his last 6 games played with the reserves. Following the 2007 MLS season, he returned to UBC and backstopped them to yet another national championship. On February 28, 2008, Djekanovic was signed to his former team of the Vancouver Whitecaps.
