Tokarta

Tokarta

Tokarta is a virtual art gallery. It allows artists to display and sell their art work online, but has a strong focus on artist's rights. It was set up by a small group of artists to look after the needs of - and fairly represent - other artists online.

History

Tokarta was launched in February 2007 by Girts Gailans and Jan Bickerton and is based in Devon, England.

Ethos

Tokarta was set up to fairly represent artists online. Unlike conventional art galleries, Tokarta does not charge commission on art works sold, but rather charges artists a rental fee for their space. Each time a work is sold on Tokarta, the money goes directly to the artist. Artists are encouraged to set a fair price for their works. They can also choose to sell their works in a selection of currencies. Their art is actively marketed by Tokarta on the artists behalf.
