- Vimentin 3' UTR protein-binding region
The vimentin 3' UTR protein-binding region is an RNA element that contains a Y shaped structure which has been shown to have
protein binding activity. [cite journal | last = Zehner | first = ZE | coauthors = Shepherd RK, Gabryszuk J, Fu TF, Al-Ali M, Holmes WM | year = 1997 | title = RNA-protein interactions within the 3' untranslated region of vimentin mRNA | journal = Nucleic Acids Res | volume = 25 | pages = 3362–3370 | pmid = 9241253 | doi = 10.1093/nar/25.16.3362] The same region has been implicated in the control ofmRNA localisation to the perinuclear region of thecytoplasm , possibly at sites of intermediate filament assembly. [cite journal | last = Bermano | first = G | coauthors = Shepherd RK, Zehner ZE, Hesketh JE | year = 2001 | title = Perinuclear mRNA localisation by vimentin 3'-untranslated region requires a 100 nucleotide sequence and intermediate filaments | journal = FEBS Lett | volume = 497 | pages = 77–81 | pmid = 11377416 | doi = 10.1016/S0014-5793(01)02438-3] The identity of the proteins involved and the localisation mechanism are not known.References
