- SraD RNA
The SraD RNA (also known as MicA) is a small
non-coding RNA that was discovered in "E. coli " during a large scale screen. [cite journal | last = Argaman | first = L | coauthors = Hershberg R, Vogel J, Bejerano G, Wagner EG, Margalit H, Altuvia S | year = 2001 | title = Novel small RNA-encoding genes in the intergenic regions of Escherichia coli | journal = Curr Biol | volume = 11 | pages = 941–950 | pmid = 11448770 | doi = 10.1016/S0960-9822(01)00270-6] Expression of SraD is highly abundant in stationary phase, but low levels could be detected in exponentially growing cells as well. This RNA binds theHfq protein and regulates levels ofgene expression by an antisense mechanism. It is known to target the OmpA gene in "E. coli" and occludes the ribosome binding site.cite journal |author=Udekwu KI, Darfeuille F, Vogel J, Reimegård J, Holmqvist E, Wagner EG |title=Hfq-dependent regulation of OmpA synthesis is mediated by an antisense RNA |journal=Genes Dev. |volume=19 |issue=19 |pages=2355–66 |year=2005 |pmid=16204185 |doi=10.1101/gad.354405] Under conditions of envelope stress, micA transcription is induced. MicA transcription is under the control of the sigma factor sigma(E).cite journal |author=Udekwu KI, Wagner EG |title=Sigma E controls biogenesis of the antisense RNA MicA |journal=Nucleic Acids Res. |volume=35 |issue=4 |pages=1279–88 |year=2007 |pmid=17267407 |doi=10.1093/nar/gkl1154]MicA and RybB transcription is strictly dependent on the bacterial
