Small nucleolar RNA SNORD60

Small nucleolar RNA SNORD60

This small nucleolar RNA (snoRNA) SNORD60 (also known as U60) is the functional product of a gene but is nottranslated into a protein. Non protein coding RNA molecules usually contain important secondary structure or ligand binding motifs and are involved in many important biological processes in the cell.

U60 belongs to the C/D class of snoRNA which contain the C (UGAUGA) and D (CUGA) box motifs. Most of the members of the box C/D family function in directing site-specific 2'-O-methylation of substrate RNAs [1] .
