Small nucleolar RNA SNORD25

Small nucleolar RNA SNORD25

snoRNA U25 (also known as SNORD25) is a non-coding RNA (ncRNA) molecule which functions in the biogenesis (modification) of other small nuclear RNAs (snRNAs). This type of modifiying RNA is located in the nucleolus of the eukaryotic cell which is a major site of snRNA biogenesis. It is known as a small nucleolar RNA (snoRNA) and also often referred to as a guide RNA.

U25 is a member of the C/D box class of snoRNAs which contain the conserved sequence motifs known as the C box (UGAUGA) and the D box (CUGA). Most of the members of the box C/D family function in directing site-specific 2'-O-methylation of substrate RNAs [cite journal | last = Galardi | first = S | coauthors = Fatica A, Bachi A, Scaloni A, Presutti C, Bozzoni I | year = 2002 | title = Purified box C/D snoRNPs are able to reproduce site-specific 2'-O-ribose methylation of target RNA in vitro | journal = Mol Cell Biol | volume = 22 | pages = 6663–6668 | pmid = 12215523 | doi = 10.1128/MCB.22.19.6663-6668.2002] .

U25 is found in gene clusters in plants cite journal | author = Qu LH, Meng Q, Zhou H, "et al" | title = Identification of 10 novel snoRNA gene clusters from Arabidopsis thaliana | journal = Nucleic Acids Res. | volume = 29 | issue = 7 | pages = 1623–30 | year = 2001 | pmid = 11266566 | doi = | issn = ] and within the U22 snoRNA host gene (UHG) in mammals cite journal | author = Tycowski KT, Shu MD, Steitz JA | title = A mammalian gene with introns instead of exons generating stable RNA products | journal = Nature | volume = 379 | issue = 6564 | pages = 464–6 | year = 1996 | pmid = 8559254 | doi = 10.1038/379464a0 | issn = ] . U25 is thought to as a 2'-O-ribose methylation guide for ribosomal RNA This RNA has also been named snoRNA R73 in some plants.
