Jef d'Hont

Joseph Leon D'hont, also called Jef D'hont, (* 1941/42 (?)) is a former masseur of professional cycling team Team Telekom (since 2003 called T-Mobile Team), who in April 2007 exposed doping practises of the Team Telekom in the 1990s.

Career

D'Hont who was a professional cyclist himself, in 1963 admitted the use of amphetamines. From 1964 he worked as a professional assistant (so called "soigneur") in cycling. From 1992 to 1996 d'Hont worked for Team Telekom led by Walter Godefroot. In 1998 he was involved in the doping scandal during the Tour de France (festina affair). For his involvement in doping in the team Française des Jeux, he worked for at the time, he got a 9 month prison term on probation in December 2000.

Doping accusations against Team Telekom

In his book "Memoires van een wieler-verzorger", of which excerpts where printed in the German political magazine "Der Spiegel" in April 2007, he accused Team Telekom of organised and systematic Doping with EPO in the 1990s. According to d'Hont a number of athletes, among them Tour de France winner Bjarne Riis and Jan Ullrich, as well as doctors and officials were involved. Based on d'Honts accusations German doping expert Werner Franke then brought charges against Team Telekom doctors Lothar Heinrich and Andreas Schmidt from Freiburg.D'Honts accusations were confirmed by a row of former team members of Team Telekom Bert Dietz, Udo Bölts, Christian Henn, Rolf Aldag, Erik Zabel und Brian Holm.
