George H. Love

George H. Love

George H. Love (1900 - 1991) was born in Pennsylvania. He attended Princeton University as an undergraduate and went on to get his MBA from Harvard University. Love took control of his uncle's struggling Consolidation Coal Company in 1944. He turned things around by a series of mergers and acquisitions, through which he was able to broaden the economies of scale. Love also negotiated fairly with union leader John Lewis. By the time he left the helm in 1956, Consolidation Coal was the largest and most successful coal mining operation in the United States. After leaving he worked on turning around the Chrysler Corporation in the early 1960s. He died in 1991.
