Fort Gomer

Fort Gomer

Fort Gomer was one of the Palmerston Forts, in Gosport, England, the southernmost and first-built polygonal land fort in the defence line to the west of Gosport. It was located on land immediately to the west of the present Gomer Lane. Built in the mid-1850s, it was used throughout its service as a barracks and training facility, both in the 1800s and in World War I and World War II. In the 1950s it was the base for the 7th Royal Tank Regiment. It was sold and demolished in 1964, the land being used for a housing estate.
