Kazu Kibuishi (born 1978 in
Tokyo ,Japan ) is an Americangraphic novel author and illustrator. He is best known for being the creator and editor of the comic anthology "Flight" and for creating the webcomic Copper. The webcomic artist and noted criticScott McCloud has said that some of Kazu Kibuishi's work is so beautifully drawn that "it hurts my hands when I look at it".Early Work
While pursuing a degree in film studies at the
University of California, Santa Barbara , he drew the comic strip "Clive and Cabbage" for the student newspaper TheDaily Nexus . After graduation, he worked as an animator forShaded Box , commercials and video game studio. However, he decided to leave animation because there was no writing involved, going back to comics. "Flight" was conceived by Kazu as a way of showcasing his and his friends' best work. They pitched the idea at the Alternative Press Expo, and it attracted the attention of
