Glenn Geffner, a
Miami native, is a radioplay-by-play announcer for theFlorida Marlins . Geffner joined the Marlins radio broadcast team in 2008, his 12th season in the Major Leagues and his 17th year in professional baseball as a broadcaster and front office executive. Geffner partners withDave Van Horne on theMarlins Radio Network . In addition to his play-by-duties, Glenn hosts the Marlins pre- and post-game shows.Geffner joins the Marlins after spending the last five seasons with the
Boston Red Sox . In addition to calling more than 100 regular season games on radio for the 2007 World Champion Red Sox--plus the dramatic seven-gameAmerican League Championship Series against theCleveland Indians and the club’s World Series sweep of theColorado Rockies --Geffner hosted the weekly “Red Sox Insider” talk show on 50,000-wattRed Sox Radio Network affiliate WTIC inHartford, CT ; and, in 2006 and 2007, he handled play-by-play for theNew England Sports Network ’s (NESN) package of Red Sox Minor League telecasts. He also served as a reporter and occasional host for the “Red Sox Report” television show, airing weekly throughout the year on NESN.The Red Sox’ Vice President/Communications before returning to his broadcast roots, Geffner owns the rare distinction of having done baseball play-by-play at every level--from college, to Single-A, Double-A, Triple-A, and the Major Leagues.
In 12 seasons in the majors, he has picked up two World Series championship rings (with the Boston Red Sox in 2004 and 2007) and a National League championship ring (with the 1998
San Diego Padres ). He has been a part of five postseasons with the Padres (1998) and Red Sox (2003, 2004, 2005 and 2007).Raised in South Florida, Geffner graduated from
Miami Palmetto Senior High School and began his broadcasting career while a student atNorthwestern University 's Medill School of Journalism, calling Wildcats baseball, football and basketball. He was later the voice of theRochester Red Wings , then the Triple-A International League affiliate of theBaltimore Orioles , and made his Major League debut broadcasting games for the San Diego Padres during a six-season stay in San Diego (1997-2002), which he began as the club's Director of Public Relations. After filling in on both Padres radio and television broadcasts--and hosting dailySpring Training and weekly regular season “Padres Report” television shows for several seasons--he transitioned into a full-time broadcasting role with the Padres. In San Diego, Geffner partnered with Hall of Fame broadcasterJerry Coleman before joining the Red Sox prior to the 2003 season.References
