Sassui Palijo

Sassui Palijo (Urdu: سسی پلیجو ) is a young liberal politician and writer in Pakistan. She is one of the youngest candidates fielded by the Pakistan Peoples Party. She is an elected Member of the Provincial Assembly of Sindh from Mirpur Sakro Thatta PS-85 THATTA-II. She is the only directly elected assembly member in Sindh. She was appointed as the Minister of Culture and Tourism in Sindh cabinet in April 2008.

She was born in Jungshahi, Thatta and has a law degree from London. She has been an active campaigner for human rights and gender justice and a strong opponent of Pervez Musharraf's regime. Sassui Palijo's father, Ghulam Qadir Palijo, ia also active in politics.

Her mother, Akhtar Baloch, was the first female Sindhi political leader to be arrested under General Ayub's martial law during the Sindhi student movement when she was 17 years old, she was kept at Hyderabad and Sukkur jails for more than a year. Akhtar Baloch also wrote Pakistan's first woman prisoner's diary "Qedyani ji Diary" (Prisoner's Diary) which was translated into English and Russian. Sassui's father is twice elected PPP Member of Provincial Assembly (MPA). Her grandmother was the late Jiji Zarina Baloch who was a well known writer, folk singer and political activist.
