Hawassa University (formerly part of Debub University, also known as South University), is a university in the Southern Nations, Nationalities, and People's Region of Ethiopia. Hawassa University was established as body of Debub Univerity on December 22,1999 as a result of the Council of Ministers Regulation No. 62/1999, which ordered the consolidation of the Awassa College of Agriculture, Dilla College of Teachers Education and Health, and Wondo Genet College of Forestry and Natural Resources. Dilla College of Teachers Education and Health was afterwards separated from Hawassa and now stands as a university by its own by opening new faculties and schools, Dilla University. The health faculty, however, has been incorporate to Hawassa.The university has since upgraded its capabilities, by adding new departments, programs and research facilities.
