February -Bartholomew Roberts robs four vessels nearBarbados .
*February 26 - Two pirate ships commanded by Bartholomew Roberts andMontigny la Palisse are attacked near Barbados by local ships and driven away with heavy casualties.
*March - Two sloops sent fromMartinique to capture Roberts and his men arrive too late to capture the pirates, who have sailed northward. Roberts adopts a new flag threatening death to the inhabitants of Barbados and Martinique.
*August -Calico Jack Rackham steals John Haman'ssloop from the harbor ofNassau, Bahamas and leads a crew of pirates to sea. They sail by the northwest coast ofJamaica , despoiling several small boats but lacking strength to attack large vessels.

**Rackham and his pirates loot seven or eight fishing boats nearHarbour Island in theBahamas . They then raid FrenchHispaniola for cattle and capture twosloop s.
**Roberts returns to the Caribbean, bombardsSaint Kitts and burns two ships in the harbor. Some weeks later, Roberts captures a French ship nearCarriacou and commandeers it, renaming it the "Royal Fortune".
