Frattamaggiore is a commune in the Province of Naples, Campania, Italy.

Geography

It is located in the Afragola hinterland. At the 2001 census the municipality had a population of 32,731 inhabitants and a land area of 5.32 km² (2.054 sq mi). It is bordered by Afragola, Cardito, Crispano, Frattaminore, *Grumo Nevano, and Sant'Arpino.

History

The first records of Frattamaggiore date to 921 AD, although the area was probably settled in pre-Roman times. The people of Atella built a watchtower in response to the Vandal invasion of 455AD, around which refugees from Miseno settled when their town was razed by the Saracens.
