Psarofai

Psarofai (Greek: Ψαροφάι), also with an a accented is a neighbourhood in the eastcentral part of the city of Patras 3 km east-southeast of the downtown core. It has several streets including several places that are now former names in Asia Minor in modern Turkey and Damascus. A stream flows to the south and forms a neighbourhood boundary.

It was name in the years after the Greek Revolution of 1821, the area was filled with olive groves and vineyards and is named after "Psarofagi Intzirka" (Ψαροφάγι Ιντζήρκα). It has several origins of this neighbourhood name, one came from a fisheater known as Erodio, other that the fish eater was Glaukos who was a fisher and went crazy, he fell into the sea. Mostly, it received the name from a fish eater who loved there. In 1960, it brought residents from the villages of the current municipality of Tritaia and built houses around the area.

Electricity arrived during the 1960s, television and radio in the late-20th century and a pedestrian traffic light to the east.

Information

The area are made up of residential areas in the area, it features a square in the northeast near Drosia, and forests in the west and east as well as a stream to the south. Its total street length is approximately 6 to 8 km of which 3 km are main streets, the rest are residential. Shops are not as common as by Drosia.

Other

Tsivdi has a few schools, a lyceum (secondary school), a gymnasium (high school) and a few churches. It has also a nearby Shell gas station in the east.
