Buxton College

Buxton College

Buxton College was a boys' independent school in Buxton, Derbyshire.

History

It founded in the 16th century and became a County Grammar school in 1924. It had a boarding house.

It later merged with the comprehensive, giving it two campuses, at "Kent's Bank" (former site of Kent's Bank Secondary Modern Boys School), and "College Road" (former site of Buxton College). It merged with the local girls' school in 1990; this was the former Cavendish Grammar School on "Cavendish Avenue" and Silverland Secondary Modern School for Girls on "Peveril Road" - these two school sites are now housing estates. It formed Buxton Community School at the "College Road" campus. [http://www.school-portal.co.uk/GroupHomepage.asp?GroupID=14422]

Current use

The "Kent's Bank" site became the site for Buxton Library. Former pupils of the school denote themselves as "Old Buxtonians".
