The Gregorian calendar was constructed to give a close approximation to the tropical year, which is the actual length of time it takes for the Earth to complete one orbit around the Sun. In the Gregorian calendar, the calendar year begins on January 1 and ends on December 31. The Gregorian calendar today serves as an international standard for civil use.
The Gregorian calendar was used nearly in all countries of Arab world. The month’s names of the Gregorian calendar were used as it is in Egypt, Sudan and Yemen. In other Arabic countries somemodification or actual changes in naming or pronouncing of months were observed.
