FreeVMS is a free software clone of VMS computer operating system, licensed under the terms of the GNU General Public License. As of 2008, the project is in the early stages of development. The latest version is 0.3.11.

It consists of a kernel (planned to be POSIX-compliant) and a DCL command line interpreter.

Architecture

On the contrary to the traditional target architectures of VMS systems — VAX, Alpha and IA-64 — FreeVMS supports only i386 processors.
