The coat of arms of Jerusalem is an emblem of the city as well as of its municipality. It was instituted in 1949, following an official competition. The lion alludes to the lion of Judah, the walls on the background - the Western Wall, the olive branches represent peace and the inscription above is the city name in Hebrew.
