Limerick is a former parliamentary
constituency inIreland , which was represented inDáil Éireann , the lower house of the Irish parliament orOireachtas . Covering Limerick city and all ofCounty Limerick , it existed from 1923–1948. It elected seven Teachtaí Dála (TDs) to the Dáil, using theSingle Transferable Vote method ofproportional representation (PR-STV).History
The constituency was created in 1923, under the
Electoral Act 1923 , for the 1923 general election to Dáil Éireann, whose members formed the4th Dáil . The constituency returned seven Teachtaí Dála.It succeeded the constituencies of Limerick City-Limerick East and Kerry-Limerick West which were used to elect members to the 2nd and 3rd
Dála .It was abolished under the
Electoral Amendment Act 1947 , when it was replaced by the two new constituencies of Limerick East and Limerick West.ee also
