"Harry Potter and the Order of the Phoenix" is the soundtrack to the 2007 film of the same name, based on the book by J. K. Rowling. Nicholas Hooper composed the film's score, following John Williams, who scored the first three films, and Patrick Doyle who did the fourth. Though new to the series, he has worked with director David Yates before. Hooper incorporated into the new score "Hedwig's Theme", the series' theme originally written by John Williams for the first film and heard in all the subsequent films.cite journal|title=Hooper writes new themes for Potter|last=Carlsson|first=Mikael|date=2007-05-08|journal=Film Music Weekly|issue=14|pages=4|url=http://www.filmmusicweekly.com/issues/FM_Weekly_050807.pdf|accessdate=2007-05-10] In March and April of 2007, Hooper and the London Chamber Orchestra recorded nearly two hours of music at Abbey Road Studios in London. The score, like the film and book, is said to be darker than previous instalments in the series. To emphasise this, the two new main themes reflect the sinister new character Dolores Umbridge, and Lord Voldemort's invasion of Harry's mind. A great Japanese Taiko drum was used for a deeper sound in the percussion. Another prominent theme represents the Order of the Phoenix, appropriately named "Flight of the Order of the Phoenix". Hooper created a distinctly atmospheric impression. However, there is some discrepancy whether Hooper has "under-played" important scenes, such as the "Hall of Prophecy", where he could have made more of the London Chamber Orchestra. Finally, Nicholas Hooper composed an arguably beautiful piece of music called "Loved Ones and Leaving". In this he used three seemingly separate sections: the first is a sad and desolate theme representing the pain of Sirius's death, secondly a rather quirky theme apparently acknowledging Luna Lovegood and lastly, the ending piece, ending on a great finish full of warm brass, decorated with recurring piccolo and string ostinati. The soundtrack is also released in a special edition, with a custom hinged box with Navy velveteen fabric.
