Jaruman or Jarumann (died 669) was the fourth Christian Bishop of Mercia.Fryde "Handbook of British Chronology" p. 220] He fought against apostacy outside his diocese.Stenton "Anglo-Saxon England" Third Edition p. 130] He served as Bishop in the time of King Wulfhere, on whose behalf he undertook several missions to Saxon tribes which had lapsed into paganism.Mayr-Harting "Coming of Christianity" p. 117] He probably originated in Ireland but was educated at Lindisfarne.

Some Tolkien scholars suggest that his name was the inspiration for that of Saruman in "The Lord of the Rings".
