"High Heels" (Spanish: "Tacones lejanos"The Spanish title ("Distant Heels") is a reference to Raoul Walsh's 1951 film "Distant Drums" ("Tambores lejanos" in Spain).] ) is a 1991 Spanish film, written and directed by Pedro Almodóvar, starring Marisa Paredes and Victoria Abril. As with many Almodóvar films, it is difficult to pin down to a convenient genre, varying between a drama and a thriller and making use of surrealism, farce, and comedy.

Plot

The plot involves a mother, diva Becky del Páramo (played by Marisa Paredes) and her daughter Rebeca (Victoria Abril), and a strange murder committed by Abril and caused by her possessive mother. Rebeca's husband was her mother's first love. Mother and daughter come against one another right after the husband is murdered. At nights, the judge in charge of the case (Miguel Bosé) is himself a drag artist, a Becky impersonator.

oundtrack

The songs for the soundtrack were done by Spanish singer Luz Casal, and it produced two of her greatest hits: "Piensa en mí" and "Un año de amor".

The score was composed by Ryuichi Sakamoto, but the music over the opening credits is "Saeta", by Gil Evans, from Sketches of Spain.
