Allan Mottram

Allan Mottram, MA (Cantab) (1949-) is an expert in choral music, born in Edinburgh, Scotland to James A H Mottram and Barbara P Howie.

Mottram attended King's College, Cambridge as a Choral Scholar and was heavily involved with the College choir, touring the world with the Choir.

He has made numerous recordings and was appointed Headmaster of Christ Church Cathedral School, Oxford, a position he retired from in 2000. He currently lives in south-west France, where he pursues an active career as a singer and conductor.

At Christ Church, he said:

Many of today’s cathedral organists and professional singers started their education as choristers, but the discipline and professionalism that is part of the chorister’s upbringing will stand him in good stead for his future career. A chorister plays a vital role in the glorious heritage of English cathedral music, a tradition as old at the Church of England itself."
