Raphael Thierry

Raphael Thierry is a French painter and performance artist born in 1972. The main topics of his work focus on identity and memory. His media cover oil paint, charcoal, sand and metal. He currently works and lives in Paris and Avignon, France.

Biography

Born in Tunisia in 1972, Raphaël Thierry grew up in the South of France near Avignon. He moved to Paris in 1990 where he studied graphic design at the Ecole Superieure d’Arts Graphiques (ESAG Met of Penninghen) graduating with honors in 1994.

Until 2004, Raphael Thierry worked both as an artist and freelance graphic designer. In 2005 he was awarded the Villa Medicis grant for painting. Given by the French Academy in Rome, this grant and the following success of his paintings marked a turning point in his career, allowing him to dedicate his work fully to fine arts.

Thierry’s works are exhibited in European galleries in London, Paris and Italy.
