Anna Wolff-Powęska

Anna Wolff-Powęska is a Polish historian and political scientist specialising in Polish-German relations. She was director of the Western Institute (Instytut Zachodni) in Poznań from 1990 to 2004.

In 1964 she graduated in history from the Philosophical-Historical Department of Adam Mickiewicz University in Poznań (Wydział Filozoficzno-Historyczny Uniwersytetu im. Adama Mickiewicza w Poznaniu). In 1970 she received the scientific title of Doctor in Humanistic Sciences, and in 1980 the title of 'Doctor Habilitowany' in law sciences (political and law doctrines) in the Law and Administration Department of UAM (Wydział Prawa i Administracji UAM), and in 1986 the title of professor.

She was a primary school history teacher from 1964 until 1969, when she began working in the Western Institute (Instytut Zachodni) in Poznań, where she became director in 1990. Though she left this post in 2004, Anna continues to work at the Institute.

Areas of activity

Anna's main areas of interest and research are a mixture of history and politology: the history of German political thought, and the political culture of Central-Eastern Europe.
