Figging

Figging most commonly refers to the act of inserting a piece of fresh, skinless ginger into the anus or rectum. The ginger causes a strong burning sensation in the anus without causing permanent damage.

Historically, this practice, also known as "feaguing" was used to "ginger up" older horses in order to deceive the purchaser as to the age and condition of the horse. The horse reacts to the sensation caused by the ginger by holding its tail and head high and moving around nervously, which is more characteristic of a younger horse.

This practice is also used in human sexual activity as a form of BDSM. The painful burning sensation is said to be very erotic to the sufferer. The ginger is not only skinned but is often carved into the shape of a butt plug. If the submissive tightens the muscles of the anus, the sensation becomes more intense.

Figging is reputedly an activity that was common during the Victorian era. It was often combined with the practice of whipping or spanking, as this activity would cause the tightening of the anal sphincter. Supposedly, the Victorians felt that a spanking should be received on unclenched buttocks, and figging was a useful practice in the training of the submissive.
