Roberto Suárez (born Roberto J. Suarez de Cardenas in abt 1928 in
Cuba ) is the retired President ofThe Miami Herald and Publisher (founder) ofEl Nuevo Herald .Roberto Suarez fled Cuba after Castro came to power and arrived in Miami with just $5 in his pocket and a small duffel bag of clothes. He started at The Miami Herald bundling the newspapers and worked his way up until he became the president of the Miami Herald Publishing Co. Later he went on to start the newspaper El Nuevo Herald.
He is the son of
Miguel Amado Suarez-de Leon (the owner of theGran Stadium del Cerro ) and Esperanza de Cardenas-Carricaburu and is married to Miriam Camuzano. They had twelve children, Roberto (1952- ), Miriam, Elena, Antonio ( - 2007), Miguel, Armando (1958 - 2007), Raul, Maria Teresa, Gonzalo, Esperanza, and Ana Maria.
