Located in the Vernon Hill section of Worcester, Massachusetts, St. Mary's is a small, private Roman Catholic high school comprising a diverse student body in grades seven through 12. The first senior class graduated in 1940, and since then St. Mary's High School has established itself as "the small school with the big spirit," with its students earning many top academic and athletic honors. Through the decades graduates have gone on to attend the top colleges and universities in the United States, including Harvard University and West Point. Key to student success is the low student-to-teacher ratio; classes are small allowing more individual attention.

Although the school was founded to serve the needs of Worcester's growing Polish community in the first part of the 20th century, the student body is now a mix of cultures. St. Mary's High School was originally staffed exclusively by nuns from the Sisters of the Holy Family of Nazareth. At present, the entirely lay faculty continues the school's tradition of blending academics with Catholic principles. To help ensure this tradition, St. Mary's maintains its affiliation with Our Lady of Czestochowa Parish.

Generations of families have sent their children to St. Mary's High School, and, as has always been the case, many students travel from towns outside of Worcester to attend classes.

Prior to entering the high school, a number of students also attended St. Mary's Elementary School. It too is located on the Richland Street campus. The elementary school, which first opened in September 1915, serves students in grades K through six.
