footnotes =Graham Walters was a
fictional character in theAustralia nsoap opera Home and Away . He was portrayed byDoug Scroope .Arrival in Summer Bay
Graham came to Summer Bay in late 2005 to see his estranged daughter
Beth Hunter after not speaking to her for a number of years after the death of his wife. He was unable to communicate on returning from theVietnam War in the 1970s. Fellow 'Nam veteranAlf Stewart helped him through to reconcile with Beth. Not long after he arrived, his family turned onAmanda Vale , who had been Scott's girlfriend, but had a faked a pregnancy to keep him. Being the only one on her side, Amanda took comfort in Graham.Marriage to Amanda
Amanda found out about Graham's wealth, and needing money for Project 56, she chased him. They got together and despite overwhelming disapproval from Beth, and warnings about Amanda's manipulation from
Morag Bellingham and Scott, Graham and Amanda got married.With claims that Amanda was only marrying Graham for his wealth, Amanda agreed to a post-nuptial agreement. However, despite this, their marriage was not plain sailing, particularly since Amanda was having an affair with the mayor Josh West. Graham found out about this affair and his wife's plans with Project 56 and demanded a divorce. Soon after his demand for a divorce, he suffered a heart-attack.
Life support
Amanda's signing of the post-nup meant that she would not inherit any of Graham's wealth if their marriage did not last 3 months, and so when Graham went into a coma and was only alive due to a life support machine, Amanda refused to allow it to be turned off, although Beth and her family wanted such that.
Amanda and Beth went to court over Graham's condition, and the judge ruled in Amanda's favour. However, Amanda's step-grandson
Robbie Hunter did not want to see his grandfather living as he was, and so, with his grandfather's interests at heart, he turned off the life-support machine.Despite their marriage not having lasted 3 months, Amanda nonetheless inherited all her husband's wealth, much to the anger to Beth, who was at least appeased when her stepmother gave her all of Graham's war medals.
Consequences of Robbie's actions
Some time later, it was found out that Robbie had turned off Graham's life-support machine and despite being found guilty in court, Robbie was not imprisoned.
Amanda's regret
Amanda has subsequently regretted some of her decisions in the past, particularly her manipulation of Graham. She has tried to turn over a new leaf and become a nice person. However, she has yet to be fully integrated into the Summer Bay community, mainly talking to her new husband Peter,
ex-husband Dan, the rest of the Baker family, her daughter Belle and Irene.
