Glen Denham

Glen Denham Born 22 March 1964 was a New Zealand basketball player. An iconic figure he has played in over 200 games for his country and scored over 4000 points and 2000 rebounds during an illustrious NBL career. He is of Maori descent and his iwi affiliation is Te Arawa. His contribution towards the representation and progression of Maori sport has been recognized with several nominations for the Maori sports person of the year award.

Denham mentored many of New Zealand's greatest players including; Phil Jones, Mark Dickel, Pero Cameron and Sean Marks(Phoenix Suns). During his international career 1985 - 2000 he captained the Tall Blacks for 13 years, setting a record as the longest standing captain in Tall Blacks history. An outstanding sportsman he has represented his country in Volleyball and his province in cricket. He is an inspirational after dinner speaker and has been the key note speaker at many sporting and business events in New Zealand. He appeared in Television 2's entertainment series 'Across the Ditch' with Lana Cocroft. He has appeared in numerous television shows including Sports Cafe, A Question of Sport, Clash of the Codes, Deaker, Give us a clue and 'A game of two halves'. He was a Basketball commentator for NBL and international matches, as well as Radiosport. He was a host of the radio show 'The Bigger Breakfast'. Along with former All Black Tom Willis, he is the only pupil at Kings High School to have been Headboy for two consecutive years. Denham was also a Hillary Commission Sports Ambassador for 10 years, inspiring and mentoring secondary school students.

A trained teacher, he was a lecturer at Dunedin College of Education and is now the Deputy Headteacher at Woolwich Polytechnic School for Boys in London,which is the largest Secondary Boys School in the UK..
