Yugi Mutou " in the English manga and the original Japanese adaptations) assumes the identity of the head of theTudor dynasty , Henry Tudor, whileSeto Kaiba represents the head of the Yorkist forces asChristian Rosenkreuz .The shores of England are protected from the Lancastrian invaders by a barrier projected by eight "White Rose" cards controlled by C. Seto Rosenkreuz and his Rose Crusaders. Using their own eight "Red Rose" cards, Henry "Yugi" Tudor and the Lancastrians summon the Rose Duelist, the player's character, to
Stonehenge in the hopes they can turn the tide of the battle. However, Seto arrives once the ritual is completed, but arrives too late to take the other eight Rose Cards. Knowing the ritual to send the Rose Duelist home, Seto offers the player a chance to side with the Yorkists. The player can choose the Red Rose for the Lancastrians, or the player can choose the White Rose for the Yorkists. Each side has different opponents and different endings, but there is an option to restart the game after completion to travel the path not chosen in the first game. Both paths end with a battle against Manawyddan fab Llyr, a Card Guardian at Stonehenge once all sixteen Rose Cards are gathered there. It is at this point that Seto reveals that his family made a pact with a Card Guardian centuries ago, and he allowed the gathering of the Rose Cards to summon Manawyddan in the hopes he was the Guardian his family dealt with.
Afterward defeating Manawyddan, the Rose Duelist is returned home while Seto escapes, but legends of Seto, the Rose Crusaders, and the Rose Duelist survive through history.
Gameplay
Although some rules of the game remain the same as in previous games, such as Field bonuses and Fusions, the duels of the game take place on a 7x7 grid, with each player commanding a "Deck Leader" that acts as the representation of their Life Points as well as the means through which their cards can be played - cards can only be placed on the board in one of the squares surrounding the Deck Leader. While battles between monsters take place the same as in the real game, monsters are required to move about the board to battle opposing monsters and ultimately deplete the opponent's Life Points or surround the enemy Deck Leader to prevent the opponent from playing any cards.
Cast
Most of the duelists in the game are from the anime and manga and give their names as aliases or nicknames while portraying a historical figure. However, although the Yorkists are referred to collectively as "the Rose Crusaders", their individual identities, for the most part, are not given.
