Morten Alfred Høirup

Morten Alfred Høirup (1961–) is a Danish guitarist, known for a modernized version of traditional Danish, Celtic, French and other kinds of music. He has worked with such musicians as Tapani Varis, Ruthie Dornfeld, Karen Tweed, Chris Wood, Carl Erik Lundgaard, Andy Cutting, Raynald Ouellet, Pelle Lindstrom and Hans Jørgen Christensen. He is also a teacher, working at the Sibelius Academy in Helsinki, Carl Nielsen Academy in Odense, Denmark, and other festivals and workshops throughout northern Europe. His first solo CD, "Vingården", was released in 1998. He then began touring with Harald Haugaard, releasing seven albums as "Haugaard & Høirup", the latest called "Rejsedage/Travelling" (2008). They have received seven Danish Music Awards (Danish "Grammy") from 2000 to 2007. In 2002, Morten Alfred was nominated for Danish Folk Instrumentalist of the Year. In 2004, he was again nominated for the folk instrumentalist award, as well as Danish Folk Composer of the Year for the album "In the Summer", which also earned the duo nominations for Folk Album and Folk Artist of the Year. Høirup was awarded "Danish Folk Composer of the Year" in 2004. Haugaard & Høirup's final concert will be held in Tokyo in December 2008.

Morten Alfred is also a music journalist, writing for the magazines "Folk & Musik", "RootsZone.dk" and "Musikeren", as well as on "Folk Nyt", "Det er Dansk" and "Radium". He has also produced and recorded music for more than 100 films.
