KONI Challenge Series

KONI Challenge Series

The KONI Challenge Series (formerly known as Grand-Am Cup) is a touring car series run by the Grand American Road Racing Association. Originating from the Canadian Motorola Cup, the series was taken over by Grand-Am in 2001 to become the Grand-Am Cup following the demise of rival IMSA's Showroom Stock series of similar rules in the US. KONI became series sponsor for the start of the 2007 season.

The series rules have been altered over the years, but currently two classes of competitor are used. The Grand Sport (GS) class features large 6-cylinder or 8-cylinder rear-wheel drive sports cars such as the Porsche 911, BMW M3, Pontiac GTO, Ford Mustang, BMW Z4 M and Nissan 350Z. The Street Tuner (ST) class is for smaller 4-cylinder or 6-cylinder drive compact sedans, coupes, or convertibles. This includes the Honda Accord and Civic Si, Acura TSX and RSX, BMW Z4 and 330i, MINI Cooper, Mazda MX-5, RX-8 and 6, Chevrolet Cobalt, Volkswagen GTI, Subaru Legacy, Dodge SRT-4, Audi TT, and Scion tC. Both classes may run in the same race, often called a "split race".

The series is a popular support race for the larger Rolex Sports Car Series, also run by Grand-Am.
