Clery Award

Rave client Montclair State University was awaded the 2006 Clery Award for its implementation of Rave Guardian. The Clery Award is given annually by Security On Campus, Inc., a non-profit grassroots organization dedicated to ensuring safe campuses for college and university students. It recognizes universities and individuals who take extra efforts to protect college students. Security on Campus Inc. is one of the organizations that lobbied lawmakers for what is now the Clery Act.

The Clery Act requires all colleges and universities that participate in federal financial aid programs to keep and disclose information about crime on and near their respective campuses. The law is named for Jeanne Clery, a 19-year-old Lehigh University freshman who was raped and murdered in her campus residence hall in 1986.

When awarding the Clery Award to Montclair State University, Security on Campus, Inc. President Connie Clery stated: "Montclair State is the first educational institution in the country to pilot an exciting new mobile phone technology that turns students' cell phones into a personal alarm device connecting them to a caring, sworn police force."
