The Hybrid Spider Monkey, "
Ateles belzebuth hybridu", species ofspider monkey , is a type ofmonkey originally from South America. They are in theAtelidae family and theAteles genus.Physical Characteristics:< as a fifth limb. They travel in forest trees, extending their limbs out similar to spiders and hanging onto tree limbs with their string-pulling tails. They eat fruits along with nuts, seeds, leaves, insects and eggs. Their colors range from a light to there are two different subspecies that are present (Ateles hybridus and Ateles hybridus bruneus). The abdomen is usually lighter and the eyes are either a light brown or a very light blue color. They are an endangered species who has 4 protected areas in venezuela and colombia.
Conservation Status:
Hybrid Spider Monkeys are currently listed as a critically endangered species on theIUCN Red List of 2004.
