homepage = [http://www.hsw.co.uk/ hsw.co.uk]Hall School Wimbledon (HSW) is an
independent school inWimbledon, London .The school is divided into two: The Junior School is known as Beavers Holt and the Senior School The Downs.
The school was founded in 1990 (by current headmaster Mr Timothy Hobbs) with only nine pupils. It has since developed rapidly and currently has over 500 pupils.
The "
Good Schools Guide " called the school "An unusual place," adding, "Mixes the off the wall with the traditional and could be perfect for children who are the 'square pegs' in more traditional establishments." [http://goodschoolsguide.co.uk/school/hall-school-wimbledon-the.html]It must be noted that as the school is relatively new it lacks a traditional hierachy for a school, as there is no board of governors. This means that the headmaster is answerable to himself only. There have been occasions where parents have been taken to court by the headmaster in order to contest punishments.
The Senior School has a much longer school day than most independent schools, lasting from 8:30 am to 5:00pm with 3 breaks. The 1st and 3rd breaks, which last from 10:30-11:15 and 3:00-3:15, have refreshments such as milk in winter and juice in summer, and a biscuit.
The school is one of the best in Merton: it is regardedWho|date=February 2008 as being strong in most subjects, and has a happy atmosphere.
