Ashford, Kent , although he currently lives in a motorhome based inBournemouth . His appreciation of the music of Jack Johnson has been mentioned on ITV's racing coverage; he also enjoys metal bands such asSystem of a Down andLinkin Park . At 6'3" he is unusually tall for his profession, and thus unlikely to be suited to 800 ccMotoGP bikes. According to ITV's coverage, he has a habit of walking around racetracks on the evening before the races, with the aim of spotting extra details about the track. His nickname is Shafter.2007 was his first season in
British Superbikes , on a Bike AnimalHonda . He lead the first corners of his very first race, and was on the podium in the first three races. A crash in race 6 atSilverstone and two eighth places atOulton Park damaged his momentum however.
