Maine .Biography
Born in
Newcastle, Maine , Flye attended the common schools as a child and attendedLincoln Academy . He engaged in mercantile pursuits andshipbuilding . He was a member of theMaine House of Representatives in 1858 and served as president of the First National Bank ofDamariscotta, Maine for many years. During the Civil War, Flye served as apaymaster with the rank of major in theUnion Army . He was a delegate to theRepublican National Convention in 1876 and was elected a Republican to theUnited States House of Representatives to fill a vacancy the same year, serving until 1877. He was not a candidate for renomination in 1876 and instead resumed shipbuilding and engaging in banking. Flye died while visiting the home of his daughter inAshland, Kentucky on July 12, 1886. He was interned in Congregational Cemetery inNewcastle, Maine .External links
