Shottery

Shottery

Shottery is a small village a mile west of Stratford-Upon-Avon; nowadays, it is considered a part of the town, but it retains the feeling of a distinct village.

History & Amenities

Shottery was the home of Anne Hathaway, William Shakespeare's wife, and is the location of the building known as Anne Hathaway's Cottage. The village has a village hall, one pub (The Bell Inn) and the Santa Lucia Italian cuisine restaurant, opposite the pub. There is one secondary school, Shottery Girls Grammar, and one primary school that has been open since the mid 1800s.

The local park, Shottery Fields, is comprised of 2 football (soccer) pitches and 1 rugby union pitch as well as a more modern 800m sprint and athletics track.

The village has a rugby club, [http://www.shotteryrfc.com Shottery RFC] , which is now based at Stratford's rugby ground, Pearcecroft, on the Loxley Road. The club was founded by Rev. David Capron, the vicar of St Andrew's church, in the mid 80s and has an excellent reputation both on and off the field of play.

Shottery is also the home to Gardeners World, on camera called Berryfields, its real name being Burmans Farm. It is currently rented by the BBC for an undisclosed period.
