Ruth Gemmell (born in 1967 in
Darlington ,UK ) is a Britishactress . She trained at theWebber Douglas Academy of Dramatic Art in London. After graduating she has done a variety of roles mainly in theatres and TV-dramas. However, she played the leading female role in the 1997 film Fever Pitch starring oppositeColin Firth and had another leading role in the comedy/dramaJanuary 2 (2006). Other appearances include a role inThe Bill (2003),Silent Witness (1996, 2006), Tracey Beaker's Movie of Me (2004),Midsomer Murders (2005) andA Touch of Frost (2006). Theatre work include parts in The Weir; Nabokov's Gloves; The Turn Of The Screw; Othello; Measure For Measure; Uncle Vanya; An Ideal Husband; The Winter's Tale; The Second Mrs Tanqueray; The Importance Of Being Earnest and A Tale Of Two Cities. Additionally, she appeared in Macbeth and King Lear for theRoyal Shakespeare Company in 2004/2005. In 2008, she had a role in the CBBC drama series, Summerhill.Ruth Gemmell was married in 1997 to actor Ray Stevenson, whom she met in 1995 during the filming of TV drama Band of Gold. The couple divorced in 2005.
