- Silvio Savelli
Silvio Savelli (died 1515) was an Italian
condottiero . A member of theSavelli family of Rome, he was the brother ofTroiano Savelli .After the initial baronal struggles against the Colonna and the
Orsini , he was hired by theRepublic of Florence , taking part to the war forPisa in 1503-1505. Later he was under theHoly Roman Empire banner, and participated to the Battle of Novara.In the same year
Massimiliano Sforza , Duke of Milan, entrusted him a force of 2,700 infantry and 500 horse to captureBergamo , hold by the Venetians, and Savelli defeatedRenzo di Ceri ; the latter however defeated him at Crema, Savelli being wounded and Bergamo fell again to Venice. However, Savelli was able to regain the city and obtained the tile of commander-in-chief of the Milanese infantry.In 1515 he is mentioned for the last time, at the defence of
