History

1904 - The institution had its humble beginning as an intermediate school established by the American regime in the Philippines. Ipso-facto, the first teachers were Americans the Thomasites (named after the ship that transported them to the country from the United States). Later, the initial course offerings were phased out to give way to secondary and vocational trade courses.

1916 - By virtue of the Philippine Autonomy Act, the administration of the school was transferred to the Filipinos. Through the years it was developed into a trade school.

1953 - By virtue of Republic Act No. 908, the Bulacan Trade School (BTS) was nationalized and became the Bulacan National Trade School (BNTS). Henceforth, the school was funded from the national contributions. PHlLCUSA and ICA –NEC gave aid to the school in the form of office equipment, tools, machineries and buildings.

1957 - By virtue of Republic Act. 1800, the school became the Bulacan National School of Arts and Trades (BNSAT).

1960 - Through another legislative act, the BNSAT was renamed Bulacan School of Arts and Trades (BSAT).

1965 - Republic Act No. 4470, sponsored by late Hon. Teodulo C. Natividad, converted the school into the Bulacan College of Arts and Trade (BCAT) to provide higher professional instruction and training in arts and sciences and technology.

1993 - His Excellency Fidel V. Ramos, President of the Republic of the Philippines signed into law Republic Act. No. 7665, the charter of the Bulacan State University. Hon. Teodulo C. Natividad was also the principal author of House Bill No. 461 which later became the aforesaid law. Dr. Rosario Pimentel was appointed the first university president. Through the years, the university grew into its present status consisting of colleges, institutes and several campuses, offering more courses in engineering, education, arts and sciences, architecture and fine arts, law, information technology, graduate education, business and public administration.
