John Goodwin (preacher)

John Goodwin (preacher)

John Goodwin (1594 - 1665) was an English preacher and religious writer.

Goodwin was born in Norfolk and educated at Queens' College, Cambridge. He took orders and was a popular preacher in his home county and later in London. A Puritan, he frequently spoke from the pulpit against Presbyterianism. When the English Civil War began, he favoured the Parliamentary side against the king, and afterwards the army against the Parliament. Some of his publications were publicly burned. He was put in jail when the King was restored in 1660, but he was soon set free.
