Pamalayu expedition

The Pamalayu expedition was a force sent by King Kertanegara of Singhasari to conquer the Sumatran Melayu Kingdom. It was decreed in 1275, though perhaps not undertaken until later.cite journal|last=Reid|first=Anthony|journal=Journal of Southeast Asian Studies|title=Understanding Melayu (Malay) as a Source of Diverse Modern Identities|volume=32|issue=3|date=2001|pages=295–313|url=|doi=10.1017/S0022463401000157]

Little is known about the results of the expedition. An inscription from 1286 states religious statues were established at Dharmasraya on the orders of Kertanagara, and that all the inhabitants of Melayu and especially their king rejoiced at the presentation of the gifts.cite journal|last=Andaya|first=Leonard Y.|journal=Journal of Southeast Asian Studies|title=The Search for the ‘Origins’ of Melayu|volume=32|issue=3|date=2001|pages=315–330|url=|doi=10.1017/S0022463401000169]
