Keiichi Hara

is a Japanese director of animated films.

Biography

What made started Hara on his career as an animation creator was a visiting tour of an animation film company, which he participated for a part of his job hunting activities after graduating from Tokyo Designer Gakuin College (TDG). He recklessly got out of the visiting tour course, normally unpermitted for visitors, then appealed to an artistic director in the company for letting him employ there. A few days later he came back with some continuity he created, following the director's request. As a result he got a chance to be employed by a commercial film studio which the director introduced him. After working at the studio for a year and half, he joined SHIN-EI ANIMATION co., Ltd. by recommendation of the president Keijiro Kurokawa. At SHIN-EI ANIMATION, he began his work with a TV series "Kaibutsu-kun" as a production manager, then was moved to another project "Doraemon", for which he was for the first time in charge of an animation director. Through the direction work for "Doraemon", he was influenced by the chief director Tsutomu Shibayama. Since Hara admired Fujiko Fujio, Doraemon's original author, he earnestly concentrated on creating continuity throughout the day and days in order to deliver its TV series in better quality. Then he got to be in the spotlight by his sophisticated, new and original continuity, to be appeared in an animation magazine as a director who produces animation masterpieces one after another. After dedicating to "Obake no Q Taro" and "Doraemon", he was chosen for the chief director of "Esper Mami" and worked for this long TV series for two and half year. When "Esper Mami" has ended, he left from work for 10 month. Then "Crayon Shin-chan" project has begun when he came back from his vacation. For "Shin-chan" series, he worked its continuity and direction both for TV series and movies, then became the director in October, 1996. The movie edition in 2001 (Crayon Shin-chan Movie 2001) was one of good repute by its story and quality, and raise his popularity. Yet more considerable reputation was made in the next year, by "Crayon Shin-chan Movie 2002", especially when the Agency for Cultural affairs set a high valuation on this film.
