4 November 1962 ) is a Scottish Liberal Democrat politician and Member of theScottish Parliament for the South of Scotland region since 2007.Hume was born in
Peebles but raised inSelkirkshire and currently lives on a farm in the Yarrow Valley. His previous jobs include Vice Chair of "Environment and Land Use" for theNational Farmers Union of Scotland and was Chairman of Lothians and Borders NFU, with 1300 members. He was active during theFoot and Mouth Crisis throughout his whole term in the NFU. Before becoming an MSP, he was on the board of Scottish Enterprise Borders.He was elected to the
Scottish Parliament to represent theSouth of Scotland region at the 2007 election. He was also elected councillor of theGalashiels and District region ofScottish Borders Council on the same night. He is the first ever Liberal Democrat MSP for the South of Scotland region since the Scottish Parliament was created in 1999.Trivia
Hume holds an
amateur radio licence and is active in the area. He runs a YarrowEcholink Internet Gateway.His wife, Lynne, was the Liberal Democrat candidate for Dumfries in the 2007 Scottish election.
